SNOW Day

Yep, you read that right. Today in Houston we are having a snow day. Which means that there is no school and Bill is home. When I took the trash out at 7:30, I realized that not one of our neighbors had left for work and there were NO other trash cans on the street. In fact it was eerily quiet. Hmmm, I must have missed something. Turns out the mayor of Houston shut down the whole city. So I brought the trash back in. However there is not a fleck of snow to be seen, just a lot of ice. Any moisture that fell through the night turned instantly to ice and apparently the roads are a mess. These southerners aren't equipped to handle ice, that's for sure. The girls started the morning by watching some cartoons. Then we enjoyed a late breakfast of whole wheat blender pancakes- something we don't have time for on school days- and a smoothie, now they are playing Super Mario with dad. I'm looking forward to spending the day together working, working on those indoor projects that we never have time for and of course...relaxing! What a perfect way to kick off the weekend!

On a related note, I was pleased to see this in the hall at the school. Madisen wrote this during writers workshop, which is a fancy way of saying independent writing time. I guess they were supposed to write the steps for building a snow man. Although the writing is good, I'm loving the picture she drew, because everyone should build a snow man in a skirt!
How to build a snowman. First you do the big snow ball. Next you medium snowball. Little snow ball on top.
