Personalities

The other day all 3 girls just happened to be dressed in black & white with a splash of red. (Shocking that it wasn't a million shades of pink!) I tried to get a picture b/c in person it was precious. I laughed when I looked back at this one. It speaks volumes about my girls at THIS stage of life.
Madisen: Posing because she's suddenly quite obedient. And she's so delightful!!
Caitlyn: Looking down, acting silly and doing the opposite of what I ask.
Brooklyn: Trying to escape because she is ON THE MOVE all of the time! Looking a bit worried since she can't get what she wants right NOW.

Saturday is a Special Day

We enjoyed a temporary break from the COLD weather we are having by spending some time at the park on Saturday. The park is so much more fun when daddy comes along! I wish I could've captured how high the girls really got swinging compliments of dads pushes. And the ultimate game of follow the leader. Dads really do add an extra element of fun!

When we got home the girls were playing soccer in our newly mowed yard.Top Right: Classic Madisen; talking with her hands, making sure I understand the rules of the game.
Bottom Right: Action- look how high she can kick!

Look Mom

I made myself BEA-U-TIFUL!

Wednesday

has become the most anticipated day of the week around here. The girls are LOVING their gymnastic/dance class. Last week Grandma was in town so she got to watch. It's so much more fun when you have an audience!
The girls are showing their mad skills. Although she likes dancing, Madisen definitely excels in the gymnastic side. Caitlyn is just happy to be there and loves both classes! I enjoy watching her learn in a group setting.

Aquarium Field Trip

A couple of weeks ago we visited the Houston Aquarium with Madisen's preschool class, and a few other preschool classes in the ward. It was the PERFECT day! We (our ward) almost had the place to ourselves.
{This is one of the first & most brilliant exhibits.}

{Then we got to see a diver in the tank. He swam around and answered questions- it was a bit strange. Because 4 year olds don't know what questions to ask. I thought the guy would wake the sleeping shark so we could see some excitement, but he didn't.}
{The last indoor exhibit was a White Tiger. Yes, we're at the Aquarium. A fish out of water, if you ask me. He wasn't too active while we were there. He just stood by the door waiting for his food.}

{Once outside we got to ride the train, which takes around the property and through a tunnel where the sharks are swimming over your head. Notice that Brooklyn was fascinated by them. The other girls were on a bench in front of me with some friends.}

{Then we rode the Ferris Wheel. Whoa! I can't think of another time that I felt more anxious!!! There were no seat belts and the door to our 'car' didn't even close tightly. PANIC! We slowly rose hundreds of feet up and suddenly we were overlooking I-45---ARGH! Brooklyn wanted to be standing and looking over my shoulder. Caitlyn wanted to switch and sit on the other side by Madisen, that was a bit tipsy. Luckily my friend was in there. My heart is racing just looking at the pictures!}

{The carousel was the favorite... we rode it twice.}

Overwhelmed & Humbled

describes how I feel tonight. I'm looking at the 3 inch, white, 3-ringed binder full of important papers & ring of church keys on my kitchen table. And I sent Megan home empty handed. I just spent almost 4 hours being oriented to my new calling. It still doesn't seem real, but next Sunday when the flow, Spirit, lessons, and details of the primary room & 160 children are depending on me & the other ladies in my presidency... it will feel oh-so-real!

I'm truly excited to have another opportunity to serve in the primary! I'm honored to have the Lord and three wonderfully talented & qualified women at my side. The Spirit has confirmed to me that this is the Lord's plan for me right now. I have felt comforted and at peace. I know I have things to learn & hopefully a few things to share. This afternoon when we were set apart, the blessings were each so specific & powerful. I will never forget the chill that went down my spine when the bishop said, "As you serve, you are not only blessing the lives of the children in this primary, but also the lives of many future generations." Now that is overwhelming! He also promised that it would strengthen my family & draw us closer to one another. I really appreciated that promise because I know I couldn't do this without their support. And he blessed me with patience. I feel the strength already!

It happened to me

This is one of those stories that you aren't sure if you should be sharing with other people. But since I know the outcome & it has a happy ending, I'm willing to share.

It was a blustery February day so I decided that a batch of homemade bread is just what we needed to warm things up a bit. Caitlyn was my helper. She had carefully placed all of the wheat kernals into the wheat grinder, turned it on, and was eagerly awaiting the finished product. As soon as I could tell that the wheat had all been ground I switched the OFF button. So the machine started making a high pitched whirring sound as the motor was winding down. Caitlyn, who had been standing on her stool, quickly sat down so she could cover her ears. I had turned my back to put something on the opposite counter. When I heard her suddenly SCREAMING. I turned to see that her hair had been sucked in by the motor as she was passing it. I tried to calm her down & free the hair, to no avail so I ran upstairs for the hair scissors & grabbed my camera on the way back. After some careful maneuvering I was able to only have to cut a small amount off to get her free. You can see what a mess it was when we were done. The hair was tied in about 4 knots. It was tightly wrapped around itself and then wound up.
Thankfully, there is a lady in our neighborhood who was willing to help me fix our mess this afternoon. And this is what we ended up with.

She may be missing a chunk of hair, but tonight I am thanking my guardian angels for making sure that's all she's missing. This could have had an AWFUL ending. I feel grateful that the grinder was winding down not going full force when she went past.

Lesson learned: Keep wheat grinder in the middle of the counter.
